Kirsten Madsen

Kirsten J. Madsen has over 30 years of experience in litigation and mediation. Her clients consider her one of British Columbia’s premier practitioners of both  family law and collaborative divorce law.

Before joining Park Place Law, Kirsten practiced at Paine Edmonds LLP, a leading Vancouver firm with a solid reputation. She combined her legal practice with community involvement and charitable efforts. As a partner in that firm representing clients with personal injury claims, Kirsten earned the reputation as lead counsel in complex cases and founded the family law practice group.

Kirsten recognizes that the courtroom is not always the best way to resolve family law issues.  As a family law mediator and having appeared as counsel at hundreds of mediations and arbitrations, she understands the value of alternative dispute resolution methods. She has also served as a facilitator for the “Parenting After Separation” course provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General for British Columbia.  When issues cannot be resolved through mediation or arbitration, she has the experience to pursue cases through to trial.

Kirsten obtained her law degree at UBC in 1990. When called to the bar in 1991, she was the youngest practicing lawyer in BC. She has been on the Executive of the Trial Lawyers’ Association of BC, and is past Chair of the Insurance Subsection (BC Branch) of the Canadian Bar Association. Kirsten has lectured at Simon Fraser University, Capilano University, and for the Continuing Education Society of BC. She has achieved the BV rating (Very High Legal Ability and Ethical Standards) in the Martindale – Hubbell Peer Review Ratings System.

An involved member of the community, Kirsten was Director for the Developmental Disabilities Association of BC and continues to be an active volunteer with the Fragile X Research Foundation of Canada. Kirsten was also the volunteer legal counsel for the M.S. Society of British Columbia for many years.
